TechniqueUmbrella RigsSeasonSummerStructureOpen Water/BasinAs the the summer comes to an end and fall is fast approaching. The late evening bite will begin to pick up a couple of hours before sunset. Be on the look out for surface action, that indicates that bass are feeding at the surface and just below the surface. This can produce a lot of bass in a short amount of time. I like to keep a couple of different setups ready. Jerkbait, lipless crankbait, umbrella rig, and some type of topwater lure usually a strike king kvd sexy dawg jr.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLaydownsWhat can I say about Shimano's new fluorocarbon line "Mastiff FC". This line was definitely put to the test today. From throwing jerkbaits, crankbaits, jigs, and swimbaits in to the wind, it performed very well. The line has virtually no memory in it. No nicks in it from throwing around docks and laydowns. It casts very well and is super strong.

TechniqueUmbrella RigsSeasonSummerStructureOpen Water/BasinThere was a ton of bait fish everywhere throughout the lake. Caught several fish on a dt14 crankbait, but the magic lure of the day was an a-rig with the storm largo shad 3". The bass were pretty much in 14-16 ft. of water on the bottom of the lake. I used livescope to find small groups of bass and throw the a-rig at them. Using a erratic retieve when I was close to the fish seemed to trigger a bite.

TechniqueDeep Diving Crankbaits (13'+)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureHumpsOnly a couple of fish was caught today. This one was caught in about 10'-12' of water. It seemed as if the fishare getting ready to head in to shallow water for the spawn here in the next few days. I used a kvd suspending jerkbait with some suspend strips to get it down to where I believed the fish were holding. One thing that I was impressed with is the new shimano mastiff fc line. It seemed like I was able to get some extra distance on my casts. The mastiff line seemed to have very low memory if any. This may be my new line that I put on all my reels from here on out. The line has the same diameter specs as some of the higher end lines for half the cost.

TechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructurePointsTargeted points and drop offs. Managed to catch a few quality fish. The bass definitely seem like they are still in their pre-spawn patterns. Probably with in the next week they will start pairing up for the spawn. My go to bait was the rkcrawler 55 crankbait in red craw color. I was trying out this new line, shimano mastiff fc. I will have to say I'm liking it alot so far. I feel like I'm able to cast a little bit further compared to some of my other lines that I've used in the past. One thing I like about this line is: it has the same diameter specs as your higher end lines for close to half the cost!
