Casting well into cover will also trigger strikes once coming out of cover. Also casting squarebills or other crankbaits just off of these areas, but in 8-10 ft of water, is productive.

Largemouth bass are actively chasing swim jigs in reed beds and lilypads. Bass are seeking cover from the reeds and pads in the hot summer sun and are looking to ambush baitfish at the edges in shallow water.

Fish pads, reeds and areas near to these that also contain standing vegetation. Tip with 4 inch paddle tail. Bluegill colors seemed to work best.

Fishing is tough on Mantrap in July, but not impossible. Largemouth were caught in a variety of ways in all areas of the lake. There seems to be no discernible pattern. Bass were chasing swim jigs, crankbaits, topwater frogs, and bladed jigs. A majority of fish were caught in 8-12 feet of water and submerged weeds with drop shot rigs.
