Day 1 of the Tennessee Bass Federation State Tournament. Conditions changed with cloudy conditions most of the day with light wind. Caught a few small ones on the Carolina rig then we targeted rock near the dam area. Was able to hook up to a nice 2.5 lbs Spotted bass with the drop shot. Hooked 2 3 to 4 lbs LM in about 20 feet in a grass patch but unfortunately broke them off. Caught several 14 3/4 non keepers with the Carolina rig after 1 when the sun started when the rain moved in.

Day 2 of the Tennessee Bass Federation State Championship. Conditions again changed with more wind and cloudy conditions. Started the morning targeting shallow laydowns with the wacky rig Senko. Caught several bass in the 14 to 14 3/4 in range in 0 to 4 feet. Moved to laydowns on rock bluffs and alternated my wacky rig with a 1/8 oz and 1/16 oz wacky jig to adjust the rate of fall. Hooked up to a few nice keepers but unfortunately got rapped up in the wood and broke them off. Mid-morning moved to a shallow flat with isolated laydowns and hydrilla grass clumps. Wind was blowing around 10 to 15 so picked up the swim bait and swam thru and over the grass. Caught 3 14 3/4" fish before I hooked up to a 4 lbs 5 oz LM. Caught several more non keepers but just couldn't find the right size fish.

Looking for spawning bass. Found them in the 3 foot range. Caught first fish on chatterbait then switched to lizard. Fish would kill it then pick up lizard and drag off bed. Fished jerkbait on deeper banks with brush and boat docks. Last fish came off old road bed. Ended up with 8 fish for 13 lbs and change.

Wind was from the North blowing 12-15 mph with gusts to 20 and bluebird sky. Tough conditions. Saw Bass making beds 3-5 feet deep. Tried to fish the NW banks but wind constant all day. Caught fish off end of dock.

In March on Nickajack lake or almost anywhere on the Tennessee River system you can throw a one knocker Rayburn red trap or a strike king thunder cricket and have one of the best days of fishing of your life.

With the Big Bass Splash happening on Guntersville, I decided to go hit Nickajack up. I started scanning around and found a few schools. They were really weird. It seemed that you would catch one fish and then they would shut down. Never really could get them to fire. Best pattern seemed to be on stumps or standing timber with a drop shot for me. I had some catfish bites on spoons and it was a constant bite. Bass would leave when the spoon came down (saw on Active Target). I hit a standing tree that I found last year and caught a good number off it. With some bigs getting off at the boat or breaking me off by wrapping around the tree. I seemed to get better bites on the worms I soaked in bait fuel the night before. (Tip: Put a 10 or so worms in a zip lock and marinate in Bait Fuel overnight. Restocking you get low as the day goes) Bite did get better when Nickajack dam started pulling water around 1pm.
