TechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSummerStructureFlooded BrushWas cranking the bank line with a crank bait in the brightest color I had on me at the time. The water was chocolate milk and nasty. This did the job. Only caught a few, but it was fun. Unfortunately, he choked it down and hard a hard time getting the hook out.

TechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSummerStructureHumpsThe actual Bait was a "River2Sea Ish Monroe Bling Double Willow Spinnerbait" (I Know It Color). Reel was a 13 Fishing concept z2 slide (7.5.1). Was also fishing with the Megabass spinner bait that day, so I added it here because that was the closest option. Sucker weighed in at 9.22 lbs. Was fishing blowups on flats and humps to the side of the main channel in less than 2ft of water. Second time that day and caught another one that was right 8.5 lbs. Hammered that spinner bait like a beast and drug me around in a kayak for more than a few minutes. Not the target species, but man, a lot of fun!

TechniqueFootball JigsSeasonSummerStructureLedgesFished the BFL on Old Hickory as a co-angler. Almost all of my bites, and all of my keepers came on a Magnum Rage Bug in Junebug. The bite was decent in the morning, but seemed to slack off as we got closer to noon. The increased boat traffic also made it difficult to fish offshore.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSummerStructureLedgesThe ledges are pretty packed, but if get out early they are there and munching. Ledges with thick milfoil clumps have been the ticket. Vary retrieve speed and boat angle for the best results. Tight lines!

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureLedgesWe caught'em good today close to the dam by working trash mats. We scanned 30 plus offshore ledge spots and just could not find active fish. Water temp was between 78°-81°.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationI was throwing around rock and vegetation primarily in the shade. The difference in the water temperature between the shade and full sun encourages them to be up in shallow shady areas. I was fishing a weightless and weed less 5” watermelon red senko. The main bite I had was from around 8:30 - 10:30, after that it got too hot for them up shallow. We launched at Shutes Branch, and I was fishing along the tree-line directly to the right of ramp #2.

TechniqueFootball JigsSeasonSummerStructurePointsFind a point where the current washes past and creates an eddy. Look for 5-10’ of depth and drag a jig/trailer from the shallower water toward the deeper. Keep an eye out for any structure and target that first. Just be thorough - it’s a big lake with a fair amount of pressure year-round. Fish slowly and patiently.

TechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonFallStructureDocksIn the fall, target docks in 6-8’ or less and throw a shad or chrome spinner bait. Silver Colorado blades will put the best flash and noise into the low-visibility water. Retrieve at a slow-to-medium pace and monitor the shad to determine the proper size and color of your trailer.
