Water temperatures have recently dropped from the low 70s into the mid 60s. The perch are beginning to school and gorge themselves in various locations around the lake. I fished on weed edges and the flats leading into the weeds. While most perch were caught on drop shotted live minnows, a mix of small, medium, and large perch were caught on Zman Trick Shotz and Berkeley Flat Worms. Blades also caught a couple nice fish. The wind was tough so anchoring/spot-locking was necessary in order to maintain a decent fishing position. Expect more and larger fish to continue to school and actively seek bait fish in weeks to come.

I drifted along weed edges in 11-15' of water at the beginning of fall. A recent cold front brought the lake surface temperature down from the low 70s to the mid 60s. Perch and other small bait fish are clearly moving into shallower water, pushed by temperatures and heavy winds. Finding weed breaks and slowly jigging i1baits (locally made by Mike Yarema) along those edges produced some nice walleye mixed with the occasional perch. As the water temperature decreases even more fish will be found in these areas.

Fish the shoals first thing in the morning and right at dark in 12 to 18 ft. Jerkbaits are the ticket! Don’t be afraid to pause for an extended time watch the slack line for a strike.
