Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard Topwater (Prop)SeasonSummerStructureReefIn the late summer while most anglers focus their time deep, there is a good percentage of bass that stay shallow on rocky reefs. Top baits like Zara Spooks or Rapala X-Pops work great to entice big smallmouth. The key is to find good grass in the area with bait activity. Position your casts to run on the inside weedline for best results.

WalleyeTechniqueBlade BaitsSeasonWinterStructureBaitfishThe bite remains good to very good at the wall on the east end of the lake at Sylvan Beach. Using blade baits in gold and silver and jigging raps in a variety of colors have produced.

WalleyeTechniqueTrolling Mid Depth (10-19')SeasonFallStructurePointsWe trolled with boards in 15-20 fow west of Frenchman's Island with various crankbaits 30-50 ft behind the boards, trolling at 2.1-2.5 mph. Caught a double limit of walleye in just over an hour with a bonus smallmouth bass. We then set-up south of the island in the shallower 12-14 fow area and caught a pile of perch, pickerel, and more walleye using fatheads on drop shot rigs.

WalleyeTechniqueBlade BaitsSeasonFallStructureLaydownsHit the canal at the east end, saw fish landed on silver 2.5" blade baits as well as white swimbaits. Best time was just after dark. I pulled two keepers and two shorts working the blade bait near the wall on the north side.

WalleyeTechniqueVertical Jigging Mid Depth (10-19')SeasonFallStructurePointsMy approach is to long-line troll stickbaits until I find a pod of fish/bait. Then I'll set up on that spot and vertically jig Rapala Jigging Raps, Fire Tiger, Chrome, and the classic black/white all work well. Pay attention to your graph, being just 5 feet off from the pod and you won't get hit. Spot lock is super helpful, or just adjusting for your drift.
