TechniqueTrolling Mid Depth (10-19')SeasonSummerStructureBaitfishHad a great bite today in 18-24 fow but fish were on the smaller size with many throwbacks in the mix. Flicker shads in various bright colors worked well behind small planer boards. Weeds were also an issue and lines had to be cleared often.

TechniqueBlade BaitsSeasonSummerStructureHumpsFished Shackleton and Messenger Shoals with a mix of drop shot and carolina rigs. The wind was heavy around 10-13 mph, so we used the trolling motor to slow down to 0.6-0.8 mph. We drifted over breaks and humps in 15-25' with a little success. We switched to blades in perch and gold (i1baits), and the fish started biting quickly, particularly in 19-22'. A slow retrieve with short hops produced the most action.

TechniqueBlade BaitsSeasonSummerStructureHumpsFished the humps on south side of Shackleton Shoal in 16-22' with winds from the east at approximately 7-10 mph. Water temps were in the high 70s. Drifted a drop shot with only a little success. I switched to an i1baits 1/2oz blade (perch and gold) and mixed in jigging raps fished with a light lift and pause retrieve as I drifted and immediately found success. The tatula makes all the difference in feeling the blade pulse and in keeping fished pinned once they are hooked. I caught a mix of perch, small walleye, and freshwater drum.
