Smallmouth BassTechniqueMedium Diving Crankbaits (7'-12')SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructurePoints8-10 feet of water in and around points was the ticket. Boat position was crucial as you had to cast parallel to the drop and keep your bait right in there faces. Casting up onto the point or off the point into deep water yielded nothing.

Largemouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructurePointsPoints leading to shallow spawning flats are where the fish are currently holding prior to spawn. Casting from the flat off the point produced numerous fish in the 3-5 pound range. Try different colors and cadences until they commit and eat it.

Largemouth BassTechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationPretty straightforward. Fish were hitting this on a slow-roll. Caught a few roamers but the majority were in weeds that were still present from last year(sparse). Fish were shallow too. All were caught in 5 feet or less.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLaydownsSimple Texas rig setup with a 1/4oz Queen Tackle Tungsten flipping weight. These fish are all spawn up on hard bottom and lay downs. Cover a lot of water to find the bigger fish on beds and use this Texas rig to catch them quicker and more efficiently (more fun too). They are seeing a lot of dropshots and Ned’s and can become tough even for smallies on beds but they could not stand the Berkley Crash Craw.
