TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonWinterStructureSubmerged VegetationWork the jig very very slow- slower than you've ever worked. Give it some little jumps and then some bigger pops too. most of the weeds have died off by this point. It's very windy though, so get some gloves or a coat ;) Jerkbaits are alright- just mainly try to work everything slowly with long pauses. For the jerk bait, pause up to about eight seconds if nothing is biting. The biggest problem with winter fishing this lake is just going too fast.

TechniqueFootball JigsSeasonFallStructureMatted GrassWEEDS! Almost not even worth fishing this time of the year. The weeds are the thickest out of any lake I've ever seen. Many people stop swimming before it's too cold just because of how many weeds there are in the lake. You have to go with an anti-weed or a weed guard- anything along those lines. Treble hooks- impossible. Single hook items are almost just as difficult. Honestly- a tough spot to fish. There was a farmer a couple of years ago that changed his drainage and a lot ended up in the lake. For some reason- this made weeds grow off the charts! If you don't believe me- look it up, there are literally articles about how bad it is. The fishing is really rough.

TechniqueFootball JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationThese fish are just starting to move up to spawn in late spring. You really want to target them with football jigs and jerkbaits. They go crazy over those. Try to work them really slow because more than likely, the water is still very cold this time of year. The fishing is probably still a little difficult because of that winter bite, but around sometimes late March to mid-April. It really all depends on how warm or cold it is that year. Just work the bait slow and try to use some finesse tactics and you'll get hit!

TechniqueFootball JigsSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassAt this point, the grass in the lake is outrageous. Jerk baits are highly not recommended. You have to move on to a more finesse style approach. I would recommend a strike king jig with a brown color along with the Googan Baits Alabama Krackin Craw. It gets the job done and doesn't get stuck as often. A white chatter bait by Zman along with a white trailer also works well. I would recommend not using very many treble hooks. The whole goal is not getting stuck with weeds on every cast.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationAround this point, the bass have moved off of the shallow spots to more about 5-7 feet of water, so they are still pretty shallow. They are pretty spooked though. Many times if you throw a bigger presentation, it will scare them off. This is when the ned rig comes in clutch. I would probably recommend Zman green pumpkin, but honestly, any type of ned rig gets the job done. Like during the spawn, the Googan Scout still comes in clutch. They still like those injured fish presentations. Swimbaits might spook the fish, but jerk baits still seem to be hot at this point.

TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationI usually use a Googan Scout Jerkbait and work it off the bank if I'm in a boat. It's a hit about every three casts! It's crazy. They're not all huge, but it's fun to just pick em' off and put em right back to get back to protecting their nest.
