Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonWinterStructureRip RapThe smallmouth in Minneapolis have really been feeding on small minnows near shore. They are grouped up in school and when you find one, there ill be more. The vision 110 jr works well because it is a little smaller than the regular 110. The minnows that the smallmouth are eating aren't very big and the smallmouth themselves for the most part aren't very huge either, but there are a lot of them. This one was the biggest one I've caught at around 3 lbs. There is a video of the action on my youtube channel that is connected to the page. Goodluck!

Smallmouth BassTechniqueFinesse JigsSeasonWinterStructureRip RapAs the water has continued to cool the fish have begun feeding on slower moving baits. The finesse jig has done great this week, catching me good numbers. Slowly dragging the jig through the rock has generated the most bites. Bites were also common as I crawled the jig up and over the backside of boulders. For colors stay natural, green pumpkin, PB&J, and browns have all worked. Good luck!

Smallmouth BassTechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonFallStructureBrush PilesThe smallies were crunching a spinnerbait this week. Fishing it around submerged brush, laydowns and rock produced numbers and good quality fish. Bites often came when bouncing the spinnerbait off this structure or giving it a couple pops in open water. Good luck!!

Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonFallStructureRip RapThe smallmouth bite was on this weekend! These fish are active and feeding up for the fall. I focused a lot on the jerkbait as it caught both decent size and numbers. They seemed to like two cadences, I had some fish eat it on long pauses, and others ate it on quick pop pop pause retrieve. Overall it was a great time to be fishing the river. Get out there and catch em, and don't forget to pack some waiders and some fresh trebles!

Smallmouth BassTechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonFallStructureRip RapCloudy, light rain on and off. Ive found this technique only usually works during rain, or at a pool beneath one of the dams. Compact spinners work especially well. Gold shiner an excellent color after a day of rain to cloud the water.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonFallStructureRip RapThe cold-front that came through at the end of this week did not seem to bother these urban smallies. While the jig bite seemed to slow, fish were crushing the jerkbait. The jerkbait was super versatile and I spent time fishing it in both shallow water and over deeper water. As long as their was nice chunk rock present fish seemed to react well. Overall, working the bait slow was key 1-2 pops followed by a pause lasting 3-10 seconds worked best. The large majority of bites came on the pause. Good luck!
