Smallmouth BassTechniqueTubesSeasonSummerStructureRip RapFishing the river this weekend was tough, smallmouth were not reacting to moving baits like they have been which forced me to slow down. Once I switched over to a free rig, bites became much more frequent. On the retrieve, I slowly dragged the free rig allowing the weight to fully contact the bottom. The current and small hops with the rod gave the tube plenty of natural action. Good Luck!!

Smallmouth BassTechniqueFinesse JigsSeasonSummerStructureFlooded BrushThe structure was bridge pilings. Find the flooded brush that's sunk near the bottoms and let the jig soak down there. The water is pretty stained so the black and blue shows up really well and the twin brush guards on the V2 are PERFECT to help keep the jig from getting hung up on all the river junk and timber.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueCarolina RigsSeasonFallStructureRip RapSpent about two hours down at the river today, and dragging was the deal. Caught four fish total, all dragging either a carolina rig or ned rig. Low and slow was the key today, all bites on the carolina rig came either during a pause in between drags or on the fall. Good luck!

Smallmouth BassTechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersWent out fishing July 22 and 23. Fishing numbers were good, but the size was a bit smaller than what we expected. We did however land a couple of nicer fish in the 17-19 inch range. I had been having very good success throwing an original zman chatter bait, but I felt like I was missing fish on some hookups. I ordered a few things from omnia and in that package I purchased some zman mini max chatter baits in 3/8 oz. I was intrigued by the mini but was disappointed it only came in 1/4 oz. I then found out they make a mini max which keeps the same smaller profile but has weights up to 1/2 oz as well as some other higher quality features. Definitely a bait worth checking out if you are into throwing lures in the river for smallies. With the new mini max chatter bait on I saw an increase in hook up percentage as well as fish staying on all the way to the boat. i think the smaller profile helps the fish get the whole lures in their mouth increasing the odds of landing the fish. It is interesting to note that we did get hung up on a few boulders at times and when retrieving lures, you could see tons of small crayfish fish were feeding on. if you were able to find rocks and rock walls fish were holding primarily on these locations. Also, important to note the reason I wanted a heavier bait was for castability and getting that lure to run a little bit deeper where the fish congregating.
