We were fishing the Iowa Bass Nation Stater Tournament on pools 9,10,11. We stayed in 10 so we didn't have to make the long run down to our spots we found during the national tournament in June. We ran up to the pool 11 dam and fished around it looking for schools of smallies but couldn't find any. We motored over to Bussey Lake and I dropped a punch in the lily pads at the mouth. Immediatly got bit and it was our biggest fish. Noticed that they liked it wiggled at the tops of the lily pads.

With a strong south wind, the current was different than during practice, where downstream points were holding largemouth and smallmouth bass, and they were eating topwaters. On tournament day, I had to slow down and cast a wacky rigged Senko to patches of eel grass and lily pads.

In the morning they would eat the frog really good and as the day went on they wouldn't After about 1 o'clock they started eating the frog really good again which helped us finish 2nd in this little youth tourney. Just find backwater right off the main channel and fish the current breaks. Just normal river bass fishing.

First time fishing this pool of the river and had a good time. Skipping and pitching at a few specific docks produced most of the fish, but there were also some fish in the heavy grass and lily pads.

We were fishing in the morning near the marina and seen a lot of bait activity on the surface. We were throwing a buzz bait and the Rapala og slim around the docks. They were in the weeds and would just come out and hammer the buzz bait.
