Fishing all throughout pool 9 was very tough all weekend. The smallmouth could be found in the usual spots with current and rock but the largemouth were very hard to find. Was unable to get many bites with a frog or any topwater. Look for shad breaking on the surface and you'll find the bass. Look for shallow areas next to deeper water like wing dams, points and sand bars. You can see the bass breaking the surface chasing shad into the shallows. Throw a white jerkbait, fluke or even a spinner into the action and you'll catch plenty. The quantity was there but not a lot of size unfortunately.

The bite was slow and not many big fish caught. I was flipping a creature hawg along the rocks and following it up with a TRD Ned rig. Weather patterns will be changing soon so I expect the bite to pick up.

Smallmouth are crushing shad on shallow flats near the main river channel. Look for areas with lots of current, flats and ledge drop offs or sand bars. Work your swimbait along the flats and over the drop offs into deeper water. Smallies are going to smash it!
