TechniqueShakey HeadsSeasonSummerStructureLaydownsFished the incoming tide all morning. Bite was slow as to be expected with those conditions. It was a cool morning and I couldn’t buy a topwater bite (lost one at the kayak on a buzz toad). I caught the fish in the picture on a shakey head and plum trick worm.

TechniqueBuzzbaitsSeasonSummerStructurePointsEarly morning topwater bite on the Rappahanock was slow. Had an outgoing tide and the bite should have been there, but the water was stained chocolate milk. Couldn’t hit anything on the spook, but the Canterbury buzz toad got a few. I caught the fish shown on the point of a feeder creek into the main stem of the river where there is some submerged timber.

TechniqueShakey HeadsSeasonSummerStructureLaydownsThrowing Shakey heads on laydowns in the rappahanock. Had an outgoing tide and overcast sky’s. I was using a 1/8 oz Scott Canterbury head, working the worm with the current in the same direction of the tide. Zoom Plum Trick Worms are becoming my one of my favorite colors to throw on a shakey head. I use the Falcon Lowrider Shakey Head rod with a 2500 size Daiwa Fuego reel. In the $130 price range, the Lowriders are one of my favorite series of rods. I own 5 of them now.

TechniqueBuzzbaitsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationTook the kayak back down to the Rappahannock this morning and found an area of submerged Hydrilla. We caught them on Poppers and buzz toads before the sun got too high. After that I switched to wacky worms and a buddy of mine was throwing a drop shot. I caught a few more on the wacky rig, but he flat out smoked them on the drop shot.

TechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationWater level was up after the recent storm surge and the top water bite was on all morning. I was focusing on submerged Hydrilla. The skitter walk and Canterbury buzz toads were the top performers on the day

TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassTook my Old Town Sportsman 120PDL kayak in the Rappahannock river. I had an incoming tide and even though the outgoing tide produces better, I still managed to catch a couple. I was fishing a weightless wacky rigged yum dinger (June bug).
