TechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonFallStructureLily PadsA break in the Wx helped locate a few bigger bass moving to feeding areas but the window was short during our first tourney of the season. A long day on the water, but when the bite was on, we focused on the East side of the main lake on flats with pads. Rolled the SK Tour Grade spinner through cuts and gaps in the pads, getting the best bites when close to deeper water. Every one of our keepers hit the bait on the fall ... fast and furious. LOL.

TechniqueSoft JerkbaitsSeasonFallStructureStumpsThe lack of rain and the cooler temps have 1) Cleared up the water in feeder creeks 2) moved bigger fish into shallower water to feed ... making for some good bites throughout the day. Jerkbaits around submerged structure from 2-5 feet have been working well, along with 1/2 ounce spinnerbaits, with silver, pumpkin seed and chartreuse/white working well. Worms and jigs on deep points will bring a bite or two, but not heavy action right now. Most of the fish we caught were feeding in the shallows, even at midday. The back of Pelahatchie Bay in areas with plenty of shady overhang produced some good bites. Same goes for the feeder creeks above Highway 43, with some of the 'hidden' lakes producing good bites in the stump fields.

TechniqueLipless CrankbaitsSeasonFallStructurePointsNatural and manmade points near deep water are holding shad right now, with spot lures (Rat-L-Traps) working well in the afternoons. Jerk baits and worms working pretty good in the mornings in shallow to 5-8 feet depths near grass, pads or stump flats (shade to sun performing best).

Largemouth Bass
TechniqueLipless CrankbaitsSeasonFallStructureRiver ChannelsThe bass are congregating on the channels and gorging on shad in schools. Fair to mid-range in size, but lots to be caught. Not what you would want to key on if tourney fishing, but lots of fun to catch. Any hard swim bait, such as a spot-bait or lipless crank thrown into the schools gets good bites. Same happening in canals around the neighborhoods in Pelahatchie Bay, as well as the Madison side, with larger bass being found in these areas on dropoffs and shadow holes.
