Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRock PileSmallies were still out deep and they would bite a tube or ned but also a Vision 110+1 or 110+2. Everything needed to be fished slow and it bite was its best when the wind was its strongest.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRock Pile39 - 41 degree temps so had to fish very slow as the bite was tough, crawl on the bottom in max depth of 10 ft or less

Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureBoulders40-50 Degree Water temps, Megabass Vision 110 and 110+1 in natural shad based colors. Longer pauses in colder temps. Fish will relate to different depth ranges, figuring out where in the water column to target fish is the key to successful jerk baiting this time of the year.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureRock PileVery simple but definitely took some time. All I was doing was making as long of casts as I could make and just reeling it back in slowly. If you happened to get gunked up with the dead vegetation on the bottom then you might get a bite when you pop it clean.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueDamiki RigSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationWas just scopin smallmouth in staging areas. They were feeding hard getting ready for the spawn. Had 22lbs of em in only a couple hours. As long as you got your bait in front of em without scaring them they would almost always eat.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueFinesse Hair JigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureBouldersUse bright color hair jigs for finessing these large females on beds on rock piles in 10-15 foot. Scan around Angler's Bay and find rock piles mixed with hydrilla and coontail for the bigger mamas.

Largemouth BassTechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureReedsOuting was for May 3rd. Overall a bluebird day with almost no wind, with high in the 70s. Water temps were from 55 to 63. Key was finding the warm water. Fish were moving up into the cattails and reeds slowly as the water warmed up. Caught fish on jigs, soft plastics, and frogs. Frogs were hot in the mid afternoon with the warming water. Overall, we caught about 20 fish, with the big being 19 inches and super chubby. Most bass were in the 12 to 14 inch range, the bigguns must be just about ready to come up.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueFinesse JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureBouldersOutstanding pre-spawn bite on Spirit. Found fish all over the typical spots- boulders and gravel transitions off Big Stoney, Little Stoney, and Red Nose Point(s). Started with a Jerkbait, but changed to football jigs and found success. Fish were deeper than expected. Slow dragging followed by aggressive hop produced the most strikes.
