TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructureLaydownsThis fishing report is for the Susquehanna River. I fished the middle section of the Susquehanna River near the Isle of Que and Selinsgrove. The water level was quite low, but was able to find success in extremely shallow water. Smallmouth were cruising a bit earlier in the week and had some success with spinnerbaits and whopper ploppers in the main river channel. During the tournament, fish had changed their pattern and were extremely shallow, relating to laydowns and wood along the bank or setting up behind small rocks or shelfs in the current. The smallmouth were sitting still in the shallows, waiting for a current feed, rather than cruising for a meal. I found primary success by tossing very close to the bank and drifting weedless & weightless wacky rigged Zman Zinkerz downstream in the current, to the smallmouth waiting to ambush along laydowns and boulders.

TechniqueHard Topwater (Prop)SeasonSummerStructureLaydownsSummertime brings a nice top water bit to the Susquehanna. A 90 sized Whopper plopper works great. Also try a spinnerbait around current breaks and structure. Look for eddys and toss that senko on tougher days. Good luck on the Susky.
