Smallmouth we're loaded up on shallow rock piles! I was dragging a Carolina rig right on top, and around the rock reefs and getting bit on the zoom speed craw. I'm guessing other Crawfish imitation lures would have worked, but I like the C rig because it doesn't get that hung up. It comes through the rocks really well.

The water temp was 55 degrees. Smallies were still pre-spawn. We found roaming smallmouth up shallow near rocks, but those were not actively biting. We found active fish out on offshore rocky humps. Small black hair jigs and small paddle-tail swimbaits retrieved slowly over these rock humps produced the best results.
