TechniqueFinesse Hair JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureHumpsThe water temp was 55 degrees. Smallies were still pre-spawn. We found roaming smallmouth up shallow near rocks, but those were not actively biting. We found active fish out on offshore rocky humps. Small black hair jigs and small paddle-tail swimbaits retrieved slowly over these rock humps produced the best results.

TechniqueFinesse Hair JigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureRock PileWater temp was 56 degrees. Some fish could be seen cruising shallow areas. However, the week prior had cooler than normal temps which pushed the big fish back out deep. These fish were feeding on schooling minnows and perch. Cast and SLOWLY retrieve a black hair jig or paddle tail swim bait around rock piles. The bigger the rocks, the better. Be sure to make contact with the rocks every so often.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureBouldersWater temps ranged from 49 to 55 degrees this weekend. Smallmouth were up shallow cruising around rock flats, points and even offshore humps that topped out around 10 feet. Casting and retrieving white swimbaits and black hair jigs produced the best bites. A few bass went for a tube.

Walleye
TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureHumpsWater temps ranged from 49 to 55. While smallmouth fishing we were able to also catch a few walleyes. The walleyes were on the deeper sections of rock humps and inside turns of rocky points in 10-20 feet depending on structure. Both smallmouth and walleye were chasing perch. White swimbaits produced all our walleyes.

TechniqueFinesse Hair JigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureBouldersFish were cruising the shallows everywhere. We nabbed a few on jerkbaits, and tried other usual suspects for early season smallies. Eventually tossed a hair jig and after finding out how they wanted it presented ( you'll have to figure that out) it was lights out! We had numerous doubles and many fish in the 4-5 lb range, it being a weekday, we had them all to ourselves!
