TechniqueGrass JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureMatted GrassWent early in the morning, bass weren’t deep in the grass yet. Caught my fish out in the area 1-10 feet in front of grass line in open water, not deep in the grass as I would later in the day. My dad caught 5 smaller fish (1 - 2.5lbs) on a wacky rig and a black senko with chartreuse tip. I had several others around a few pounds on a white River2Sea D-Walker (size 120) rigged on a scrounger head made by Jenko Fishing. Between the two of us, we had 9 fish total and we fished for most all of the morning from 8:00 to 12:45pm. This was by far our most successful day ever at any of the Tenneroc lakes.

Teneroc is the site of former phosphate mining, but has now filled with water and is being managed. All but 2 lakes are trolling motors only, so its a nice relaxing place to fish. We live only 1.5 miles away from Teneroc, so I intend to file Fishing Reports for most of the Teneroc Lakes. Today, my Dad and I fished Lake #2. We fished from 7:30 until 12 noon. The air temperature at 7:30 was a nippy for us 62 degrees. The skies were overcast, cloudy until 10:30, which is unusual, until the sun broke through and we had sunny skies. When we got in the water, the water temperature was 71.5 degrees, but we found 74 degree water by noon. It was a slow fishing day, my dad and I each had two fish. I had the largest fish, a 19.5" largemouth caught on a Megabass Flap Slap crankbait. I also had a 15.75" bass caught on a Megabass I-Jack 1oz wake bait. I had noticed a commotion on the surface about 25 feet from the boat, some baitfish were surfacing so I threw the only "topwater" lure I had tied on. Luckily it worked and the bass hit my I-Jack wakebait. My dad stuck with his tried and true, catching both fish on a black and blue senko. Neither fish were particularly noteworthy. Overall it was a gorgeous day to get out and fish and to spend some quality time with my dad.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonWinterStructureStanding TimberWorked the topwater early but they did not want to bite. At 9am I switched game plans… I began working the main points of the lake with the black and blue worm on a Texas rig and was able to come up with a couple nice bass. I then caught a couple more along standing timber with the wacky rig green pumpkin Senko. Tenoroc is a great fishery with many fishing options for anglers. The FWC does a great job managing the bass and wildlife. It’s only open to anglers Friday - Monday and you must present your fishing license.
