I was fishing the urchin around standing timber, similar to what I’ve done on other lakes in the area, and had some good success. I switched up fishing it like a jig and jerkbait until I figured out what they wanted. I’ve found that the 19mm size catches bigger fish too. This one was 17.5” which is a bigger bass for the lakes. Pro tip: put a bobber stop on the hook after you skin hook the bait, it’ll keep it on the hook much better. Would highly recommend!

I got the kayak out on this little public lake. They were definitely up shallow. I found some on beds, but they looked like they'd spawned already because they weren't super locked on and appeared to males from what I could tell. Northern strain bass get in and get out, I've never had very good luck finding them actively spawning. They were on the shallow and deep weed lines with most being on the shallow edge. Fun day with some bass close to home!
