TechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSummerStructureRiver ChannelsOver the 6 days we were fishing wheeler we found the majority of our fish on rock walls. We caught them on the walls by either paralleling the bank with a whopper plopper or a 3/8 oz jig in a dark green. We also caught some fish on a popping from by flipping it under low hanging trees and a few off of ledges. Water temperature was 88 degrees.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureStumpsI fished a Bassmaster Open the 3rd week of may on Wheeler lake out of Decatur. I did most of my damage on the flats around stumps in 4 to 10ft of water. I had a 3 prong approach on each stump. I'd start with a football jig, follow up with a drop shot and end with a DT-6 to elicit a strike. There was very little current so wind and clouds seemed to be a major help.

TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBaitfishI had a small club tournament on Wheeler. There where a bunch of tournaments going on so people where everywhere. I fished my plan but the wind had a different plan than was ideal for me. I couldn't get on a shad spawn like last week. The fish didn't want a topwater because of the wind and I switched to a jerkbait. Started catching largemouth and smallmouth right away. The only 2 good smallies pulled off at boat trying to play them out. Caught a lot of 14.75 inch smallies, have to be 15 inches. Decided to fish deep and caught fish on dropshot and a big shakeyhead (local made 3/4 oz football head and mag trick worm) on a ditch with shell. Just never got the better bite this week where they came easy last week. Ended up catching a bunch of fish but only had 10.5 lbs. The Opens guys will be fully offshore.
