TechniqueShakey HeadsSeasonFallStructureRiver ChannelsDay two of the BFL Regional. Conditions were bluebird skies and 78 degrees. TVA was generating so there was a very strong current most of the day. Our strategy was to work current seams along bluff walls. We found the most effective way to get bites, and keep from getting snagged in the rocks, was to let the boat drift with the current and throw our baits down-stream and let them hit the bottom before working them back to the boat. We has so-so results and only weighted in three keepers.

TechniqueCarolina RigsSeasonFallStructureSubmerged VegetationThanks to my Pro Mike Frye for putting on some good fosh today. We both caught a limit. Mike used a Carolina Rig and I used several baits. Our strategy was to work current seams and grass lines behind tied-up barges just off the main river channel. Green Pumpkin was the best color today. Day 2 tomorrow!

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonFallStructureLily PadsPractice today for the BFL Regional on Lake Wheeler. Water temp was 70 degrees and partly cloudy with 10 mph winds. We found fish in grass 3-5 ft and also in lilly pads. We caught a few spotted bass around barge tie-offs. Overall, we had a very good practice catching about 20 bass. We even got into a few schools of white bass.

TechniqueCarolina RigsSeasonFallStructureLedgesPut in about 6 hours on the water this morning. The bite is decent all around. Caught SMB, LMB and spotted bass. Managed to catch them in 15' ft of water on a ledge throwing a Carolina Rig for a while and then fished shallow.. Successful throwing a buzz bait in main river cuts and throwing a bladed jig around grass clumps. Caught about 25 fish. Best 5 would have gone around 14lbs.

TechniqueDeep Diving Crankbaits (13'+)SeasonFallStructureBouldersThe fish were sitting on the back side of rocks with strong current flowing by. They used the boulders as an ambush point and would wait until bait flowed by to strike. I found these boulders using my Lowrance and Humminbird side scan. We started catching them early on a crankbait and when they quit biting that we had to slow down with a shakyhead to pick up some extra, key fish.

TechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonFallStructurePilingsFish were all over the place. There were some deep, shallow, in the grass, brush, suspended. You could fish your strength and get bites. I didn’t make the hall to Decatur. I stayed midways between Browns Ferry and the dam. The day of the tournament I caught them on a jig extremely well. I did catch some throwing a spinnerbait and Chatterbait in the grass.
