TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationPulled up on a windy point with milfoil out a good ways in 6-8ft of water. Threw the jackhammer over top securing all of our weight getting 3rd place in my HS derby!

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationWrapped up the tournament with 14 pounds and got third place. The main deal was fishing deep points with a shallow flat nearby and was burning chatter baits over the top of the grass. Also sprinkled in some punching later in the day on those same flats.

Largemouth Bass
TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationFish a drop shot about 18”-24” off bottom. Find weed edges anywhere from 12’-18’ of water. Find Lily pads/reeds and throw jig at edges. Also used jig around docks and was successful.

Largemouth Bass
TechniqueCarolina RigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationA calm mostly sunny day that got hot, up to 87 degrees. Water temps ranged from 76 to 82 degrees. Caught fish with a variety of baits (dropshot, 4" finesse worm on a ned jig, or neko rigged senko) in the 10-15' depth range. But, the quality and quantity of Largemouth bass were biting, oddly, a lightly weighted, carolina-rigged wacky senko - slowly dragging and twitching this hovering off bottom through the coontail in 15ft. That outperformed a dropshot approach all day.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationThe weed lines in areas of White Bear Lake can be fairly deep. Locate some of these deeper weed lines in the 15-20 foot range. Take a drop shot and slowly work the area, the natural colored baits seemed to outproduce other colors. This should produce some quality bites. It is a bonus if you can find weed lines adjacent to rock piles as well as hard bottom mixed within the weeds. These harder bottom areas tend to hold the larger fish. It can take some time to located them but you can run into some decent schools of bass.

Northern Pike
TechniqueTrolling Shallow (0-9')SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationSometimes going old school is the best, troll over weed beds at 6’ to 10’ deep at 1.7mph to 3 mph at about 60’ back. Hold on and wait for the bite!
