An exceptionally well balanced Frog Rod, light weight, strong, and ergonomically friendly handle, fit, and grip. Fish were really hard to locate post spawn and on the move in a time of transition. Super long casts to cover water, erratic retrieves with intermittent pauses in sweet spots around multiple types of vegetation or points and holes in emergent vegetation (pencil weeds/reeds), and lily pads. 50 lb Vicious Braid.

Found largemouth on the move eating topwaters mid morning and mid day! Short tips and pauses with the plopper were key to call fish up out of submergent vegetation. I prefer 30 lb vicious straight braid and a soft bud powerful 6’10 mojo glass rod with a 6.6:1 SEVIIN gf castinf reel. Fish were 4-8 feet deep!

Got an a great frog bite early in shallow water reeds! Conditions were warm overcast and drizzly. I prefer a 7’4 slop n frog rod paired with a SEVIIN gf casting reel and 50 lb Vicious braid. Trim your frog skirts a half inch or so and you can off set the leg length to help the bait walk in a side to side motion. I also open the hook bends out a degree or two to increase hooking percentage.

I prefer 8 lb Vicious ulimate mono for ease of use, affordability, easy to break off and re-tie when fishing current and rock. We usually target back eddies close to spawning sites in 6-18 feet of water. Pitching jigs a short distance 20-30 feet from the boat and hopping or swimming or gliding the jig back is the ticket!

Northern PikeTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructurePointsOne of the best fishing days for pike that i've experienced! Fish were grouped up and staging on rocky secondary points leading into shallow mud bays with sparse submergent vegetation. Quick twitches with a 4-5" suspending jerkbait with a 5-10 second pause in the cold water was the ticket! My son and I were both very successful fishing jerkbaits each boating fish in the 34-38 " range with many over 30 "s. Fish were actually dropping eggs as we held them for photos! I fish all of my jerkbaits on 10 lb Vicious Pro Elite Fluorocarbon. They were ripe and running. I suggest adding feathers to your rear treble hook if your jerkbait doesn't come with them. It definitely gets you more and better bites especially on the pause in cold, clear water. You will also catch really nice smallmouth at this time of year if you can keep the pike off!
