Early April with water temps in the low to mid 40s. Target banks with with rip rap and main lake points. The smallmouth will move up shallow to feed when the temps start rising and one of the best ways to catch them is with a jerk bait. Cast the jerk bait as close to the rip rap as possible and slowly work it back to the boat. The key here is slow because of the cold water temps the fish are a little lethargic at times.
