This kayak tournament was tough for me due to only catching 3 fish the whole day and only submitting 2 of the 3. One of which jumped off the board. All but one came off flipping a Missile baits D Bomb in Black Red flake and Brusier flash. I had to fish around the entire cypress tree to get the few bites I got through out the day. A must is the new Shimano Mastiff FC. I was using 18lb test and it was doing wonders with the abrasion resistance and low stretch allowed me to fish the heaviest cover without going to braid. Hope this helps out for your next trip.

Fish were just starting to spawn and the rest of them were getting ready to spawn. Caught this 5 pound largemouth in a short pocket off the main river. Big chunk rock seemed to be the key for the largemouth.

This lake was our second stop for our tournament season. In between cypress trees and the bank and working a weighted wacky worm, or burning a mini max is what got my bites.

Went to catch a Solar Eclipse fish and caught a 5.08 on the backside of the total Eclipse how cool was that. It’ll be one of those things I’ll never forget. It was really neat during the Total Eclipse the bait fish started swirling on the top of the water everywhere and than bass started schooling on them.

Day after cold front, sunny side docks seemed to be holding fish and found a few near lay downs and brush piles. Fish hugging the bottom. Slow retrieve produced soft bite, pay attention on the early bait movements.

Finished our first Yak event of the year in 2nd by doing a few things caught a few throwing a wiggle wart up super shallow, caught two bigger fish on a swimbait and culled out all my smallest fish with a jig. They’re starting to pull up shallow and getting ready to spawn so get in as much fishing in as you can.

It’s that time of year! Some of the better fish are moving up to the shallows and starting to eat. For me the magdraft was my main bait by fishing it around any cover I could put it. Paired with the Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch, it is the best rod for the 6” magdraft. As well as trying out the new Shimano Mastiff Fluorocarbon. I used 18lb test and it done wonders fishing wood, rock, grass, etc. I had a bass take off with my Magdraft and rubbed against a metal beam underwater and was still able to get the fish out with little to no issues. If you’re looking for new line to try out, be sure to pick up a spool or two of the Shimano Mastiff. Good luck out there and catch em up!

Really slow day of fishing. Still caught a limit but had to work pretty hard for it. There was no wind the the water was pretty clear. Caught all my fish deeper on main lake points.
