Record high temps here in Iowa had water temps on the rise. It was around 47° when I launched in the morning and some.of the shallow areas were over 60° by the afternoon. Bass were up in the shallows having a feeding frenzy. My biggest fish was 3.65lbs. Top 5 were right around 16lbs. At one point I was getting bit on every cast. Everything from .5-3lbers.

A slight warming trend led into a windy day in the low 50°s. Wind was out if the south east at around 15-20mph. I first found 13-15" fish close to some wind blow flat rocky banks with a jerkbait. After the bite slowed I changed to a ned rig and caught a few more out of the area. After catching around 10-15 bass I moved on looking for better quality. The best size came after finding schools of crappie on my down and size imaging. I could see bass on the edges. I was able to follow the drop off and picked off around 20 fish. Highlighted by a pair of 5lbers.

50-30 mph gusts the weekend we went. It made fishing most of the lake difficult so we hid behind points and spent a lot of time in the canals. Fishing was tough caught a few on a Bassman compact spinnerbait and the good ol wacky rig. Also my buddy and I managed couple on the glide.

Lots of pressure and most of the perimeter is covered with thick hydrilla. Got several big bites off of a texas rig with the Rapala Crush City Bronco Bug and the 6th Sense Vega Frog Gill Fest.

Dink City today! Fished the grass line and rocky points that made a break in the grass. Didn’t seem to want to hit anything moving so slowed down and dragged a finesse jig and neko worm with a 7/16 tungsten nail weight. Not that many people on the lake for holiday weekend. Great morning to get out!

With the lake choked out in grass, I had to slow down and pick it apart. Flipping a Bronco Bug and Cleanup Craw into the scattered voids, pockets, and natural lanes mixing in some standing timber. By the end of the day I was able to put together a nice bag.

I managed to take 2nd in the IKFC tournament this weekend. It was a windy postfrontal day on the water. The key for me was slow winding a swim jig around the edges of the curly pond weed. I caught a few on the weed edges around shallow rock reefs where bluegill were spawning as well.

Fish appear to be in the middle of the spawn with the increase in water temperature. Larger fish have bloody tails from fanning. The bite is very tough right now but largemouth bass are still actively chasing shallow crankbaits. The fish are feeding on Bluegill heavily and following them to shallow, rocky areas during the early parts of the day.

Found a few fish punching grass lines and holes in submerged vegetation in about 5–6 feet of water. Didn’t see much activity up shallow near the bank, but with the water temps and conditions, the spawn has to be close.

Outing was for May 3rd. Overall a bluebird day with almost no wind, with high in the 70s. Water temps were from 55 to 63. Key was finding the warm water. Fish were moving up into the cattails and reeds slowly as the water warmed up. Caught fish on jigs, soft plastics, and frogs. Frogs were hot in the mid afternoon with the warming water. Overall, we caught about 20 fish, with the big being 19 inches and super chubby. Most bass were in the 12 to 14 inch range, the bigguns must be just about ready to come up.
