Muddy water after rain so contrast was key. Only a couple bites but the bites were good ones.

Working down the bank with a shaky head. 4lber choked it on the retrieve. She was swimming with it and I didn’t even know she was there at first. To make matters worse, I was fumbling with the net like a rookie. Amateur hour. 😂

Throwing a fire craw jackhammer over submerged Lilly pads on high tide. The 5-1/2” trailer got me a couple short strikes. I think I’ll switch up to the 4-1/2” spunk shad next trip.

Lot of rain came in over the past week so the river was chocolate milk. I couldn’t get bit on a moving bait. Fished around pilings with a shaky head and black trick worm and landed a couple. Water temp was reading 48 on the depth finder, so I expect it to get better in the coming weeks.

Caught 20+ bass, mostly 13-15.5” around marina pilings. Wood and metal pilings both held fish. Best pilings were in ~8’ of water. Some fish holding in slightly deeper water but could not get them to bite. Others had some success on large grass flats where the grass has just begun to grow. Using my own hand poured worms. Closely resemble Zoom trick worms and Roboworms.

Bassin on the Potomac right after a cold front is tough. Air temp in the morning was only 30 degrees. Fish had lockjaw and wouldn’t hit a moving bait. Only 2 fish caught for the day were both caught on zoom trick worms. One was caught by my fishing partner with a Junebug trick worm T-rigged with an 1/8oz bullet weight. The single fish I caught for the day was on Junebug Red and a shaky head.

Tried grass flats with limited results on Spinnerbait, swimming worm, and crank bait. Found the juice was wood and metal dock posts. Bigger fish came from 8-10’ depth. Smaller fish a bit shallower.

Could only fish a few hours in the AM and we hit the tide wrong, but still managed to put a few in the boat. Fish in the photo came off a Picasso shock blade pro and hog farmer spunk shad trailer. Couldn’t buy a bite throwing soft plastics. My fishing partner was doing well tipping the tops of the grass with a Manns Baby One Minus as well. When all else fails in the Potomac, throw a bladed jig!

Fishing today in Mallows Bay off of the Potomac River. It’s very rare that I throw a stick bait that is not a Yamamoto, but today the water was very dirty and I had no black with blue flake GYs in the boat. I did have a pack of June Bug Yum Dinger’s, so I figured I’d give them a shot……..boy, am I glad I did! I ended up going through the entire pack and they were on fire! I am going to start throwing Dingers more often as they are cheaper, last longer and have a good action when wacky rigged. I would recommend sizing down on the VMC wacky saddle as compared to the GYs, because the dingers were sliding in the size 7.

Fishing Mattawoman Creek off of the Potomac River. Started out at first light throwing War Eagle buzzbaits with Yum Tip toads in place of the skirt. We were retrieving the the buzz baits through the tops of Lilly pads on a high outgoing tide and it produced well.

Mattawoman Creek off the Potomac river produced well today throwing swim jigs with keitech paddle tails and working them through submerged grass. A few others were caught off of baby one minus crank baits and wacky rigged senkos, but the swim jig was the best producer.

5 fish total out of the Potomac today. Bite was tough and all we caught were dinks. Wacky rigged senkos we’re the “hot bait”. Tried t-rigged senkos, chatterbait, crank baits, and spinners. All 5 were caught wacky rigged.
