Fished a memorial day tournament out of Osborne Landing and practiced for a few hours the day before. Bite wasn't lights out, but when you did get a bite, it was a decent fish. While practicing, I caught them on laydowns, docks, points with hard spots and in the backs of pockets. Fish came on the Bucca Brand Trick Shad, swimjig and jackhammer—somewhat junk fishing, but I knew they wanted moving baits. Nigh before the tournament, air temps dropped and on the morning of, the water temp dropped 3-4 degrees. I expected a morning buzzbait bite with the rain and gloomy weather, but to my surprise, no takers. Went back to the glidebait and this time, picked up the Raid Osakana Slide and quickly rounded up two solid fish for the bag: a 3 1/2 & 2 1/2 pounder. Bite slowed for a while and then all the sudden, it was like a light switch—was casting around with a swimjig and BOOM, an easily 7 pounder eats, I set the hook poorly, she runs right at me, jumps and spits the jig... The next 15 minutes was rough mentally, but I kept casting the swimjig in the same area and filled out my limit with a couple 2 quality fish and a squeaker. After getting that big bite and the many that came after, I decided to stick out the hour left in the derb in this area, but to no luck. One rat in the bag and total weight ended up at 12.43. Unfortunate to have the kicker come unbuttoned, but a fun day of learning. Even caught one with a tag in it from the VDWR and the fish was SUPER healthy!

The fish were very active today and ate really well. I caught the majority of my fish on the wacky and the fluke. Throwing the fluke close the shore and working it back to me and throwing the wacky around cover like docks and lay downs produced a ton. I caught a few on the swim jig and the paddle tail but not a whole lot. Hope this helps.

Early in the morning the bass were chewing bluegill up shallow in 1-7 feet of water. As the sun got higher and the water warmed up the fish shut down. We switched to fishing thick cover and lily pads. We were instantly rewarded on the jig punching through pads. We then caught a few on the frog. The key was letting them eat the frog for at least 3 seconds before setting the hook. Often they would miss it and eat it again or not have the bait fully. Using 4 strand braid was also key. The 4 strand is a lot rougher and really cuts thorough vegetation. Texas rigs and wacky around the thick over worked well. Another rig that caught them good was a weightless Texas rigged senkos that I twitched over the pads and let fall into gaps in the pads. Hope this helps and good luck fishing.

The bass were feeding heavily on bluegill up shallow around bluegill beds. The wacky produced around the beds well but the jig produced a lot bigger bites. I threw a few swim-bait and glide bait style baits in a bluegill pattern but didn’t have a ton of luck. Finding bluegill beds is key right now as bass are terrorizing the bluegill. Throwing bigger baits and jigs off the beds towards deeper water and throwing wackys directly on the beds worked the best. The bluegill spawn is one of the best times here in Minnesota to catch giant bass as they are feeding extremely heavily to make up all the weight they lost during spawn. Hope this helps and good luck fishing.

Wonderful fishing day for kayak fishing. Low wind out of the west partly cloudy. Pitched a Crush City Janitor (Sprayed Grass color) Texas rigged with Woo Tungsten 5/16. Let it drop near the trunk. Twitch a few times. Several bites felt like I got a little hung up but then my line jumped and I set the hook. Caught a 3.5lb and 4lb using this technique. Lost what could have been my PB when taken under a limb. The risks of fishing trees. All in all a great day. Kill Creek Lake is a wonderful small lake to fish.

Marked a bunch of beds using FFS and visually using a raised platform. Had a flogger handy for the deeper bed. Grab you favorite ned head and a finess TRD. I used the coppertreuse but if you have trouble seeing pink also caught a bunch. Have a drop shot on deck, some fish wanted them higher and some would only go on the bed itself. But I really was a one rod day!! Biggest 5 were just under 19lbs.
