6-11-22 South Dakota Bass Federation Trail #3: Big Stone Lake did not disappoint. My partner and I weighed in a solid 5 fish limit of 19.70, which was good enough for 5th place. Our sight fishing pattern that we came across prefishing went out the window. Early in morning we were able to catch a couple on top water frogs, but not much for size. As the day progressed so did our bite. We used an assortment of baits Texas rigged. My two biggest came on a 4" venom tube.

You could find Bass from 1' to 10' on Big Stone in middle of June. Big blue gills were on beds all around. Lots of stringy spring grass all over the lake. There were some bass offshore but they seemed scattered and hard to find. The most consistent bite was on inside weedlines around rocky shorelines fished with chatterbaits when you had a little wind. Also, frogs or flipping around shallow wood or overhang trees produced consistent quality fish as well. Green pumpkin chatterbaits with 4.5" tactical minnows seemed deadly. As far as frogs, either traditional or popping frogs in browns & blacks were getting hammered.
