TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassFishing inside weed edges and clumps along Boulder or wood shorelines. Frogs were king but flipping and swimming soft plastics produced bites as well. Too slimy and weedy to fish moving baits or treble hook baits in most areas.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassBig Stone was an incredibly tough bite today. Big cold front moved through the night before. Sunny skies and little wind. Weed mats are thick and getting to be pretty choked. Kept to the southern part of the lake as the further north we moved, the worse the algae bloom got. Really struggled to find Largemouth today. Broke out the punchin gear to hunt through weed mats but had little luck. The most prominent fish we caught were white bass. They were after the chatterbait on the outside weed edge. The panfish in the photo went for a wacky rig. Left the legendary lake somewhat disappointed after all the good reports I've heard. That said, I think we were just there on the wrong day.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged Vegetation6-12-22 SDBF Trail #4: Day 2 on Big Stone was a little tougher than day one. We found ourselves doing a little bit of everything. We caught keepers in all kinds of ways and depths, weighing in 17.77. We caught some sight fishing in 3-5 feet of water, a few skipping docks, a couple punching grass mats, but the majority were caught flippin' grass in 7-9 ft of water. Unfortunately we didn't land any true Big Stone giants, but there is no doubt in my mind we were around some. Venom Tubes, ZMan Palmetto Bugs, and a wacky rigged ZMan Zinker were my weapons of choice. Each produced quality bites and quantity depending on the depth and vegetation.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged Vegetation6-11-22 South Dakota Bass Federation Trail #3: Big Stone Lake did not disappoint. My partner and I weighed in a solid 5 fish limit of 19.70, which was good enough for 5th place. Our sight fishing pattern that we came across prefishing went out the window. Early in morning we were able to catch a couple on top water frogs, but not much for size. As the day progressed so did our bite. We used an assortment of baits Texas rigged. My two biggest came on a 4" venom tube.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLaydownsYou could find Bass from 1' to 10' on Big Stone in middle of June. Big blue gills were on beds all around. Lots of stringy spring grass all over the lake. There were some bass offshore but they seemed scattered and hard to find. The most consistent bite was on inside weedlines around rocky shorelines fished with chatterbaits when you had a little wind. Also, frogs or flipping around shallow wood or overhang trees produced consistent quality fish as well. Green pumpkin chatterbaits with 4.5" tactical minnows seemed deadly. As far as frogs, either traditional or popping frogs in browns & blacks were getting hammered.
