Largemouth BassTechniqueMedium Diving Crankbaits (7'-12')SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRip RapWent out last week didn't catch many but the few I got in the boat came on a dt 8 in the swings and points right before getting into a cut of standing timber

CrappieTechniqueDamiki RigSeasonWinterStructureStanding TimberCaught a limit of crappie and got three bonus catfish while crappie fishing! The fishing was good. The larger crappie came on a Damiki rig with a Keitech holding it right above them. The catfish apparently love it too. Also caught a lot on the Bobby Garland. The Jenko Double Down rod is great for these.

CrappieTechniqueCrappie Sniping (Casting/Single Poling)SeasonWinterStructureStanding TimberCaught a limit of crappie mostly picking them off one at a time. Nothing huge but lots of good keepers. The crappie were pretty aggressive and if you hit the ones a little outside of the pack on the head they usually would eat. I have much more success letting the bait pendulum to them then dropping straight down. Water was 42 degrees.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonWinterStructureStanding TimberFound some smallmouth moving between standing timber in 25-35’ of water. Got em on a small swimbait fished like a damiki rig. I let it pendulum down to them and held it on the fishes nose and didn’t give it any action. The wind was heavy and waves were rolling in. Gusts were reported up to 40mph. Water temp was still 40 degrees.

CrappieTechniqueVertical Jigging Deep (20'+)SeasonWinterStructureStanding TimberFound some schools of crappie hanging on timber in 25-40’ of water. The Bobby Garland rig with two different jig sizes seems to always work in this part of the country. Really heavy winds made it hard to stay on them in the kayak so it was a short trip. Got my first one of 2023 over 14”! That is a quality fish for around here. When I was able to stay on them they were ready to feed. If they are not smashing it, hit them in the nose with it and lift as slowly as you can. They like to chase it up.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonWinterStructureLedgesSuspending jerkbaits in the coldest time of the year can be the ticket because of how much you can slow them down. Ledges are a great area to fish because it allows the bass to move up up or down in the water column with ease.
