Smallmouth BassTechniqueFootball JigsSeasonFallStructureHumpsSuper fun day dragging a Keitech 3.5 Little Spider (grn pmp) rigged on a 3/8 or 1/2 oz. Keitech Football head. Best depth was 28 to 33 foot. I'd cast out, let it fall all the way to the bottom, reel in to create a semi-tight line, then drag the jig by sweeping the rod across my front from 3 to 9. Key to the presentation is ensuring the jig maintains bottom contact all the way back to the boat.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonFallStructureLaydownsOn a painfully difficult day laden with bad decisions by my boater (by his own admission), this bait produced a 3.5 lb. smallie, one of only two fish for me on the day.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureBouldersMonth: August Weather: Bright with some clouds, 5-7 mph out of the southwest, 80s-90s Water Temp: 74-78 Depths: Rocky flats and points in 8-16' near deeper water. I launch out of the Chaumont Bay state launch in Chaumont around 4:30 PM. I used Navionics and my side imaging to identify large rocks/boulders to fish near drop offs. I initially found some smallies drifting the edges of large boulders/rocky area just outside of Duck Bay and hooked/landed a couple nice fish drop shotting on the Berkley Flat Worm in black. Action was inconsistent, so as the evening progressed, I moved to the deeper end of Independence Point and after that Johnson Shoal. These locations provided steady action, producing multiple fish over 4 pounds and several fish in the 3+ lbs. range on the drop shot with an Erie Darter in Smoke Purple twitched back to the boat. Dark Sleepers in Mutsugorou also produced a couple fish. It was a great initial trip out on Chaumont Bay.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureLedgesA struggle for us. Few fish caught in a vast body of water. Fought windy conditions with constant south west wind. Coverd Chamout and Henderson bay in 4 days. lots of miles. The few we caught were large with a 6.4 lb as the big smallmouth. Drop shot on the most dramatic ledges was the best for us.
