Largemouth Bass
TechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationPost cold front conditions, cloudy, and windy. The bigger largemouth bass were responding to spinnerbaits or other moving reaction baits through the tops of curly leaf pondweed in 8 ft. The more water disturbance the better, so bladed jigs, and squarebill crankbaits also caught some of them.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Large)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationBass are mostly post-spawn and located anywhere from 1' to 15'. A variety of techniques will work. Swim jigs, Texas rigs, and frogs up shallow and swimbaits and ned rigs out on the weed edge.

TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructurePointsThe bass are in their post spawn funk. They can be found just about anywhere, but getting them to bite is a challenge. The fish on the weed edge were willing to strike moving baits at sun up. As the day progressed, good numbers of bass were caught up on shallow points ripping a swim jig through the weeds.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationMost bass are post-spawn, spread out and difficult to pin point. Covering water is key. Fish a chatterbait over submerged weeds in the 5-12' range. Up shallow, toss a frog into emergent vegetation and stumps.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationBluegill and crappie are starting to school up on the deep weed edges and the bass are right there with them. Look for panfish activity up on the surface or mark them on your graph in that 10-15' range. The bass are sitting in the weeds below the panfish waiting to strike. Run a chatterbait, spinnerbait, swimbait, crankbait, anything that resembles a bluegill over these deep weeds and you will find active bass. The post-spawn funk is coming to an end!

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationIn the morning i caught them flipping baby brush hogs up shallow 3-5ft in submerged vegetation. Later in the day i fished the neko rig out on points and the deep weedline and caught a better average size.

TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureReedsEarly June 2022. Largemouth are still shallow and hammering the wacky rig. Fish were loaded up tight to the reed edge. Hottest spots were the reeds with sunfish beds.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationAs the spawn is now done, the bass are heading out towards their summer haunts. Weed edges can be very productive. Target these areas with dropshots, ned rigs, jig worms, bass jigs and Texas rigged plastics and thoroughly work the outside 20' of the weeds. Also, I tried the new Mustad Alpha Point series Alpha-grip finesse 1/0 hook on a dropshot and it sticks em good!
