Largemouth BassTechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationThis is becoming one of my favorite swim jigs. It swim great but I also use it for skipping docks. Using it swimming through submerged pads worked great. The bass nailed it all day long. The keeper is really nice as well. Only used one trailer the entire day

Largemouth BassTechniqueDeep Diving Crankbaits (13'+)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureRock PileFish were right in the Spawn period on May 22 but a massive cold front had moved into the area pushing fish off the shallow beds to deeper water. We found an awesome deep bite in 9-16 ft and caught most of our big fish on the Rapala DT 10 crank. Other fish were caught on a jackhammer and Ned rig to round out our bag winning the 2022 Greenhorn Spring Open with just over 16lb.

Largemouth BassTechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLily PadsGet to this access early. Lots of bass fisherman at this lake in the morning then changes over to recreational boaters later in the day. Work your way around the East side of Chicago Lake. there you'll find submerged trees that shoot out of the water. Toss your frog (or also now a spider) around those trees for nice largemouth. As you move further South along that edge, there will be a bay full of lily pads. Have a blast tossing frogs, wacky rigs, ned rigs and dragging Texas rigs on and through those lilys. If bass are deep, tie on a drop shot set up just north of the islands above deep grass mats in 13 ft of water.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationBass were sitting on beds on 5/31. Water temps were between 66-68°. Sight fishing beds with texas rigs or jigs was what produced best. Stealth was key. Look for brown sand areas in the middle of vegetation and slowly work your rig through there.

Largemouth BassTechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureFlooded BrushThe majority of the bass are now post-spawn. The willing biters were up shallow near flooded brush. Working a bluegill colored frog near this brush was key. I believe the bigger females have moved out deep to recover from the spawn. It's just a matter of time before those big girls start eating again!
