Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationJust finished up my first single day derby of the season on Clearwater Lake. Had a great day finishing in 3rd on the co angler side. Caught plenty of bass and my big bass was caught flipping (Free Rig) a geecrack bellows gill into any healthy looking vegetation. I also was able to catch some on a neko rig in and around vegetation near ledges.

Largemouth BassTechniqueNeko RigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureReedsThis morning we were fishing just outside the reefs and casting near the reef edges. Slow work it back with some good pauses in between. Bite was pretty good with the neko rig and Wacky. Surprisingly not much luck with a chatterbait or swim jig today.

Largemouth BassTechniqueBuzzbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureReedsFished all day using buzzbaits and ribbon tail Berkeley Baits. Used the G Juice in the live well and the fish were in excellent shape at the end of the day. Water was 74-77 degrees and the G juice was a definite need.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureHumpsFlat water to start slow fishing at first. Had to work Texas rig from swallow off the edge of the hump/ledge. Fish were held right to the weed line in 7-12 feet and slow nibble bite almost had to dead stick to grab them.

Largemouth BassTechniqueHard Topwater (Prop)SeasonSummerStructureReedsFish the reed islands that have a drop off from 2 to 3 feet to over 20 feet deep. Fish were coming up off the ledge hitting top water baits. Lots of 2 to 4 pound fish. Buzz Baits, Spooks and Whopper Ploppers all fired up the fish.

Largemouth BassTechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureLily PadsLots and lots of shallow fish! Stable overcast conditions allowed for bigger fish to cruise the shallows in search of food. Focus on emergent vegetation anywhere from 1-8 feet of water. Lilipads and reeds provide a great place to start, mats of dying curlyleaf are also a great place to look. Focus on irregularities in these places - little pockets, points, clumps, etc. Don't be afraid to work your frog slowly around these high percentage areas. Both popping and walking frogs worked well. Additionally there were some schools forming out deep, but the bigger fish had not pulled all the way out into those areas yet.
