This river can be tough. There is little in the way of docks, bluffs and other easy targets. Instead, focus on the the island points and rip rap around road beds. I’ve had success with a square bill in both of those areas. As usual, in the morning, start with top water, either a popper or a plopper to stir them up. As the temp rises, start working deeper with cranks, jerks and jigs. During the hottest parts of the day, the fish may transition toward channel ledges but they will remain near the islands.

In the summer (water in the low 80s), start at the back of the creeks. The baitfish transition to this area which draws the predators. You might mark fish on the bluff walls, marina and channel ledges but, today, the larger fish were active in the backs of the creeks. Pitch or flip a Texas rigged ribbon-tail into brush piles, fallen trees and the large rock formations in 6’ of water or less. Sometimes you can find grass to swim your bait through but it’s not a guarantee.
