Stay back 30 feet or so and cast to them with a slow steady retrieve. We caught lots of fish in the 1 1/4 lb range with several being over 1 1/2 pounds. Brush piles on points and drops where the best locations. Also caught a few fish on grassy points in 12-20 foot of water using the same technique.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueNed RigsSeasonFallStructureBouldersHad a solid day at Dale Hollow on an early November weekend. All of my fish came on a Ned rig or small finesse jig. I targeted steep bluff banks and backs of pockets in the 10-20ft range. I didn’t see a whole lot of bait graphing so I finessed areas that typically hold fish. I ended up catching 3 smallmouth and a big 20.25” largemouth.

Fished 12/2-12/7. Water temps started at 59 went down to 56. Cold front came in Monday with snow, air temps dropped into upper teen. Most of the week we were dipping rod tips and blowing out reels. Fished the Westmoreland Smallmouth Tourney on the weekend. Lots of slot fish (16"-20 7/8") caught.

water temperatures were in the low 50's, the lake was WAYY down on water level, but was able to get bit in the grass by the marina and every bite was a quality large mouth that had to pull out from the backs of the creek that were dry at the time.

Caught 15-17 pounds of smallies a few weeks back. We found them at the mouths of creeks suspended over 20’+ of water but only sitting in about 5’. They were very easy to catch once you got your bait above them they were very aggressive and we could have easily caught 20 that were over 3 but we didn’t waste to much time on the smallmouth for our tournament.
