Largemouth Bass
TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationMemorial day 2025. Air temp was about 50 with a bit of a cooling front. The water was colder than expected not even hitting 60 degrees. The fish were very much bottom oriented as all bites came slow dragging on bottom. There was a minor grass edge developing at about 8-10ft deep and as the sun came up they seemed to be right at the transition. No bites in the grass. Some fish especially in low light were in 4-6ft and may have been setting up for spawn as the bite was really light and finicky. Could have been blind bed fish but still had bellies on them so it is just shy of spawn or early spawn. Casting right to the bank and dragging up to that 10ft edge produced all day. Any moving bait we threw was untouched including bluegill swimbaits which I would have thought would trigger a fish or two if it was spawn and they were on bed.

Crappie
TechniqueCrappie Sniping (Casting/Single Poling)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLaydownsIt was a bit windy 5-10 mph, and the lake is crystal clear down more than 15'. Crappie were holding tight to large trees that sat in 10-20' of water. Jigging near the deeper ends produced fish, but it was necessary to weed through many aggressive sunfish and small bass to get to the target species.

Largemouth Bass
TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationBass were scattered across weedy flats and dropoffs all morning and afternoon. Slower steady retrieves, lift and drops, moderate retrieves with occasional shakes, and fat retrieves just below the surface all produced fish, with slow and moderate taking the biggest fish. Only the occasional pickerel showed up, so it was a good day.

Yellow Perch
TechniqueLive Bait RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureRock PilePulling worms on drop shots or jigs led to numerous hookups where we'd and rocks meet. Deeper weeds (10'+) on rocky bottoms also produced fish.
- Species
Panfish / Bluegill
TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationBluegills were beginning the process of building beds. In shallows and in adjacent weeds, large gills were willing to chase any small swimbaits offered at slow, medium, or fast retrieves.

Crappie
TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureBrush PilesCrappie were spread across brush and downed timber, with some coming off of dropoff weed edges. Slow retrieves with pauses and shakes lead to countless hookups as fish were in the middle of spawning.
- Species
Smallmouth Bass
TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureBouldersWater was about 48 degrees in mid april and we found the largemouth up shallow warming up in the shallow water as the sun came out later in the day. Found them on the jerkbait on the pause and even found a pair of decent largemouth super slowly rolling the hair jig real shallow. Little single tail grubs on ball heads found a few perch and a few bass too.

Largemouth Bass
TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationThe nursery was loaded up. Found a school of bass sitting a little deeper off the second contour break off the shore in 14-21ft of water. The key was being near some submerged vegetation but not in the thick stuff up shallow. Got 11 in about an hour and a half there in the middle of the day with lots of boat traffic driving by. Was able to upgrade size a bit going with the beaver style bait Texas rigged (but a lot less frequent bites) and ran into a couple decent ones with the worm but lots of small ones.
