My buddy Greg and I decided to jump into a USA Bassin tournament on Truman Lake Saturday and you could say we had an eventful day. We started our day by me catch our biggest fish and big fish of the tournament a 7.52lb bass on a Motion Fishing Spinnerbait. I was actually excited because it rarely seems that I start a tournament day catching a good on like that. We preceded to fish for 3 hours without another bite, it was a cold front day and I knew the fish were going to be a big slugish and around 11:30 they started to turn on. I caught a 3 pounder and 4 pounder almost back to back and then we caught fish steadily all afternoon. The key was adjusting to the spring conditions and fishing the wind. We didn’t have a spot just an area of the lake ( I’ll tell yall the areas Monday after the solo top 100) and the fish seemed to be active and right up on the bank. The key baits to our day were a Motion Fishing Spinnerbait and a motion jig fished down the bank. I’d like to key and area in for yall but I caught fish from the main lake points all the way in the back so they are definitely scattered right now. Covering water efficiently is the name of the game when they are like this. We ended up getting the win with 21.08lbs of bass and prolly culled through 10 or 12 keepers. Spring conditions can change fast a great way to keep up with them is by surfing Omnia Pro and getting the lay of the land before you get to the lake. Truman Lake Club Tournament Report Day-After-Grand Adventure Right after our Grand Lake outing, we grabbed my buddy Greg and headed over Truman Lake for a little club tournament. Conditions looked pretty similar to the day before, dirty water up the Osage and Pomme arms, and cleaner water down the Grand arm, but we chose to stick with the dirtier water approach. How the Day Unfolded We worked those spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and crankbaits around main lake and secondary points, and while it wasn’t the cleanest day of fishing, we had our chances. We ended up with four fish for 11.5 pounds total. Lost a couple of good ones in the 4-5 pound range that could’ve changed the game, but hey, that’s fishing! Key Takeaway: Focus on Points The pattern was clear: if you weren’t fishing points, you weren’t getting bit. With the lake drawn down a couple of feet, fish were stacking up around those rock transition areas. We had around 8 or 9 keeper bites and boated four. Not our best day, but it sets us up to come back stronger for the Solo Series Top 100 in a couple weeks. Gear Up and Save If you’re heading to Truman Lake soon, keep it simple: jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and square bills are your go-tos. And remember, you can grab all your tackle at Omnia. Use code LUKE10 to save 10% on everything and get yourself set up right.
