TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureRip RapI recently fished Hubbard Creek Reservoir for the Texas Kayak Championship Series tournament. Grass was not abundant and there was little vegetation growth. Fish were keyed on moving baits such as small swimbaits, crankbaits and spinnerbaits and were in very shallow water. Focus your efforts along rip-rap or rock structure, stick-ups or reeds. Did find some fish deeper along submerged culverts and creeks with ned-rigs, though those fish were very much on the move. Most of my success was on the Megabass 1/16th Okashira Screwhead with a 3 inch Megabass Spark Shad in Royal Gill. I used at St. Croix Legacy Xtreme 70MF spinning rod with a Daiwa LT 3000 reel for the smaller swimbaits. I also had success using the Bassman Compact Tandem Spinnerbaits around lone stick-ups.
