The East Arm of Hubbard tends to hold the best concentration of a mix of bedding smallmouth and prespawn/spawning areas for fish to set up. With a large flat on the northern section of the east arm, the fish tend to setup on isolated rock/perch grass areas and dark spots on the bottom. Make the longest possible cast with your hair jig and slowly retrieve it mid-column, targeting dark spots or bottom composition changes. Keep your retrieve slow and steady, without cadence changes when you see fish tracking your bait. Best colors for hair jigs seem to be black or brown with white

Very few mayflies were on the water. There were many crawfishes in the shallow water. Smallies were on the breakline. They looked as pre-spawn. Crankbait and Jerkbait did not produce any bites. Neko Rig was a productive way to get a bite.
