Mid June transition, when the majority of the fish haven't made their way to the main river ledges just yet. Look for those active shallow fish around secondary points, rip rap and the backs of creeks with cooler water.

Water was warm but fish were not staged out on ledges yet. Found fish very shallow in 1 to 3 feet of water, usually along submerged brush along creek channel or rip rap. Was able to catch largemouth and smallmouth on both squarebills/cranks in rip rap, small swimbaits over flats with submerged brush and wacky rigged senko around shallow laydowns. For small swimbait used Zman texas eye jighead with small Minnowz plastic.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSummerStructureLedgesThrew a variety of lures but the ones that produce the best and most bites were on soft plastics dragging on the bottom at the ledges. Only one bass was caught on a deep diving 6XD.

Cypress trees are a popular spawning habitat for bass. Tie on a 4-5” Wacky Rig and target the trees on shallow flats and sheltered pockets. You can’t cast too shallow! The fish in the picture was in the slack water behind an old cypress tree. The water was about 10-12 inches deep
