TechniqueHard Topwater (Popping)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureDocksThis day was an absolute hammer fest with the Megabass Popper! Started off the day targeting shallow smallmouth on a rip-rap bank, then went on to target some green fish down the river. Both fish came up and absolutely smoked this thing about 5 docks apart from each other. Both of these fish were over 4.25lbs, a true giant for the Upper Niagara River!

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureReefDrifting reefs in 20-25. Smallies were coughing up good sized perch and minnows. Used a fairly long dropper (~20”) and the small soft jerkbait outproduced the maxscent for once.

TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersDecided to take my 14ft boat that I had made a casting platform for during COVID out for a Wednesday night tournament. Ended up making quite the run for a 3-hour tournament using almost 1 hour of total drive time there and back. Decided to pull up to some boulders I have become very familiar with over the last couple of years fishing Lake Erie, and decided to target some suspended smallmouth on jerkbaits and underspins. Went there during practice, and watched two fish over 6 lbs chase the bait back to the boat. For the tournament, my partner and I probably hooked over 20 fish, but lost numerous ones due to tying the jerkbait to the wrong rod, but after switching to my St. Croix jerkbait rod, I was able to land more fish. I ended up losing one over 5.5lbs that ended up eating it right at the boat as I pulled it out of its mouth when I thought he grabbed it. I ended up with 11.67 lbs for 3 fish, (coming in 4th out of 15 boats) not bad for a summer tournament on Erie. Always great to be able to compete with local hammers
