TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRip RapFishing rip rap breaks near spawning flats. Targeting areas that the smallmouth would likely stage waiting to spawn. We have a full moon right now, so finding the fish was the tricky part because they were constantly moving. Once you found them you could really beat on them with a steady jerking cadence. 40-80 fish days aren’t uncommon. This day I did about 45 in 3 hours. When it was low light and cloudy I used Mat Skeleton vision 110. When the clouds went away and became bright sunny I switched between the Mavrik, and vision 110 in GG deadly black shad.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersI fished Lake Erie and caught several small smallmouths and one that went 3.13. I then fished a two day tournament with the club I belong to. Saturday, I fished my normal starting spot and only caught one 2.2lb smallmouth on a nedrig and several large mouths. Went to the scales and didn’t have a fish over three pounds so…. Fast forward to Sunday I fished my starting point again with kietech m2 football head jig with rage chunk trailer and caught a 15” smallie, a 17” largemouth and a 3.15 smallie. Then I went out on the lake and culled the small smallie and largemouth replaced them with a 3.2 and a 4.2 smallmouths which gave me second those were caught on a Ned rig using TRD’s! Tight lines all

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBouldersWe are almost done with the spawn, I was able to get out the past three days. Two with clients and yesterday as a fun day. Our fish are fattening back up quickly as we have an over abundance of bait back in the eastern end of Lake Erie. We put over 150 fish in the boat on the guide trips then I was able to put a 23.50 lb bag on the scale yesterday.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBouldersA recent guide trip produced some good numbers shallow in the 10' range with drop shot, flat worms, and round drop shot weights. Most fish were caught using Daiwa 7' Medium-Fast Spinning Rod with Lew's Hypermag 6.2:1 Reels. Fishing is really good right now on the Lake and is only going to get better into the summer months.
