With Summer time finally here, the bite on Santee Cooper Chain of Lakes has finally started to heat up! I recently fished an NPFL event on Santee Cooper an amassed 67 pounds and 12 ounces over the course of the three day tournament! Averaging a little over 20lbs a day. The first day of the tournament, I focused on the south end of Lake Marion on Post-Spawn bass that were targeting bream in shallow water. Anywhere from two to five feet of water, around patches of water-willow grass and eel grass, the more isolated the better. Then on days two and three I focused on the North side of Lake Marion, due to high winds and the water dirtying up in my main area that I fished on Day one. Focusing more on isolated brush piles and cover in 8ft-12ft of water, with a Spinnerbait and Jerkbait as my main two weapons! Using a new Rapala Jerkbait that is soon to be released to help fill my limit everyday and try to get a kicker. The Brush piles were the deal on the north side of the lake because there is less grass present and not much grass offshore, so the fish still tend to use the hard cover, where on the south end of the lake they are predominantly using the grass as cover.
