Use you electronics to find schools Crappies right after ice out they will be on the first break, staging right out in front of the bays and channels. The ice just went off and the water in 10’-20’ is warmer than the water next to shore in the shallows. A few degrees is a lot. Drop your trolling motor and fish right above them with the rippin rap. Use 3”-6” jigging strokes, be careful not to over jig a rippin rap a little is a lot. If it a slow bite try tipping the treble hook with a crappie minnow head, or back off a little and cast to them. I like using a braid and a 6’ leader or mono tied directly to the braid. Just sit above them watching your electronics to stay on the school, sit just like you are ice fishing. I like to tie directly to the bait with no snap or swivel.

Fishing shallow points with rock made for some big bites. Sitting on the side of the point and casting into 5-7ft rolling a swimjig or a big swimbait got me bites. I looked for the weed edge and small rocks to find big fish waiting for the right bait to attack.
