TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructurePointsPost-spawn fish were scattered so we did a lot of searching with moving baits like topwater, jerkbaits and soinnerbaits. When we learned where the fish were congregating, ned rigs were most effective at triggering the larger, finicky fish. Points with rocks and some weeds held the nicest fish. 5-7 ft was best with the sun and wind blowing into the points.

TechniqueFinesse Hair JigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureRiver ChannelsMade it out for the WI opening weekend. Chose a smaller, shallower, darker body of water since the ice had just gone off many Northwoods lakes within the previous few days. Water temps ranged from upper 30's to low 40's so we found most walleyes to be roaming around 10 ft of water around points bear the river channel. In the evening or early morning some fish were a little shallower. Making long casts with the Moontail and slowly reeling it back near bottom was the most consistent producer most of the day and caught the largest fish.

TechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonSummerStructureBouldersFished a kayak tourney on the Jersey city flowage and got second place! Early morning topwater bite near schooling minnows was key! Smallies were using matted grass, lily pads and boulders to corner baitfish! Worked a jig later in the day at the fam for filling a limit! Fun day!!

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureRiver ChannelsFortunate to have a good day chasing smallies with my Dad and daughter. Classic late-summer pattern with the smallies on the crayfish feed. Best areas were adjacent to the river channel and the best spots contained large rock. Slow rolling ned rigs around the rocky areas in 6-8 ft of water was the most productive. This is a fish catching technique so it is a great way to get young ones or inexperienced anglers started on smallies. Peak summer means drag peeling runs and sky high jumps!

TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureStumpsPost spawn largemouth were relating to stumps and downed timber in shallow bays with good sun exposure and protected from the wind. Pesky pike frequently found the old school floating Rapala slowly twitched along cover. Largemouth got more active as the water warmed closer to 70 degrees. Twitching is a great way to quickly hit the highest percentage targets.
