TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructureRock PileWhat a grind today. The lake fishes so different now that it's full. Lot's a submerged cover that can eat up your rigs if you're not real careful. I caught a few with a ned rig, but it was hit and miss. End up drifting the dam and after experimenting with jerk baits (caught some aggressive small ones), spinner baits (nothing) football jigs (nothing) I finally hit it big with the tried, true and trusty wacky rig. After switching colors a couple of times, the gray and white of a Yamamoto Senko Smoke Shad was what they were looking for. They liked the slow flutter of a weightless presentation best. It was a last minute decision to fish the dam and was a great way to finish the day!

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureBouldersThe bass were hitting this set up hard today. I tried a few other techniques, but this is what they wanted on this day. Texas rigging the Rage Cut-R is such a flawless technique. It slides right through any submerged brush, along with bouncing in and around all the rock piles. I could have left my other rods in the car today....

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLedgesI changed things up a little from my normal techniques to see if I could get into some larger fish. It's so hard for me not to get sucked up to the shoreline, but I stayed off shore and looked for drop offs in the 20-30 foot range. This sudden cold front seems to have pushed the spawners back out a bit. It took a little patience, but if you twitched those Baby Z's just right, they would take'm. Seems like as long as you have some kind of shimmer in the color pattern, they'll go for it.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonWinterStructureBouldersFished out of my kayak throwing everything but only had luck on a drop shot but the new rising water is encouraging. Fished pre storm so the bite was tough. Will be back!

TechniqueUmbrella RigsSeasonWinterStructureBrush PilesI spent the day on rapidly rising Oroville. *** Safety Warning*** Oroville is currently filled with thousands and yes I mean thousands of very large trees floating around. There are clear areas but boat at your own risk. I would say you would want to keep it under 30mph to be able to react in time as many are hard to see and submerged an inch under the surface. Main lake is dirty enough to call it 0 visibility. Arms are more clear. This could change with rain. Stable weather is forecast so the water should start clearing. I started out in one of my favorite areas on the main lake throwing jerkbaits and football jigs. Both were getting short striked. I moved up the Feather River fishing 45 degree and steep clay banks with jigs and a-rigs. No bites. Keep in mind bait and fish were all in 40' of water according to graph. I couldn't get bit at that depth. I decided to target shallow cover looking for feeding fish despite the 48-52 degree water I knew that since it was stained that some fish would move up. First fish came on a Keitech Crazy Flapper on a Jewel Baits football jig in about 1' of water. I put this down after a few short strikes and picked up a River2Sea Bling spinnerbait with no luck. I then followed up with a Shane's Baits A-Rig. That was the ticket for the rest of the day. I did find a consistent pattern throwing it. All of my fish were less than 15' of water. Finished the day with a little over 11 lbs which is great for Oroville. Biggest was 2.15 on the scale. I intentionally left out the specifics so you can find the fish yourself. But this should help get you on the right path if you are heading out in the next week or so. Fishing should only get better with stable weather coming.
