Switched up to the River2Sea wakebait and caught a 2.75 pounder between the grass patches. Drought is so bad you have to cast carefully or else you'll get snagged in grass and ruin your presentation. Bass bit this one hard and fast. Thought it was a big one considering the blow up and fight, but still a respectable fish. Topwater rules!

Night fishing under a full moon. Water was very calm. Thought it would be prime time for some topwater. Action was largely dead for a few hours. Suddenly the action picked up around 11:00 PM, including the one pictured. Blew up the whopper plopper and put up a good fight. Respectable fish!

What ever edge is having wind blown into it I’ve been fishing. Bite has been consistent so far this summer. It’s taken perfect casting. Parallel and across points in the grass.

Decided to go BFS to target bass and bluegill. Fishing was rough, tiny swim baits and creature baits mimicked the forage for late “winter” in Texas. Casting along the bank and reeling painfully slow was effective. Most bites came from the edge or submerged vegetation. I ran a Metanium MGL with the KKR BFS reel. I highly recommend it if it’s in your price range. However, the curado BFS is a great starter BFS reel for the money. The Sierra Ultra Finesse rod pairs great with it, and I was able to easily launch 1/16oz baits out.

Grass mats are especially key during prespawn; be sure to throw into the grass mats with tx rigs using bluegill imitations as the bass keep the bluegill population pinned against the banks using the grass mats to hold areas and to ambush. It's also ideal to throw quarter oz swimjigs and chatterbaits on and over the grass mats...dragging them over in some instances and letting them fall into pockets. This lake also holds a healthy threadfin shad population.
