The top baits for larger small mouth bass were swim jigs on a Texas rig style hook set up as a drop shot. I had the most success reeling in super slow and giving the bait the occasional light twitch. I tested which depths were working best. I found smaller males to be in the 8-10 ft range. Once I moved out to deeper water 11-15 ft deep is where I was landing larger females. Largest fish of the day was 4.25 lbs

Smallmouth have started moving out into the summer depths. Fish can still be had in mid depths from 10-16’ but the bulk of quality fish are in 17’+. A heavy drop shot used to quickly cover water is a great way to locate pods of post spawn smallies.
